A number of changes to the Student Grant Scheme have been announced so it’s worth checking your eligibility for the upcoming year.
Holiday Earnings
The amount a student can earn outside term time has increased from €8,424 to €8,830.
Known as Holiday Earnings, this is income earned from employment outside term time within the previous calendar year by an applicant who was in education.
Student Contribution Grants
The income threshold for the €500 Student Contribution grant has increased from €115,000 to €120,000.
The Postgraduate Fee Contribution grant has increased by €500 to €4,500.
Maintenance Grants
As introduced in January 2026, the annual rates for non-adjacent maintenance grant holders studying PLC, undergraduate and postgraduate courses increased as follows:
- Non-Adjacent Special Rate increase of €350
- Band 1 Non-Adjacent Rate increase of €430
- Bands 2 to 4 Non-Adjacent Rates increase of €200
Special Rate
The income threshold for the Special Rate of maintenance grant has increased to €28,600 for a household with less than four dependent children.
Disablement Benefit is now an eligible payment for the Special Rate of grant and will not be included when calculating a household’s total reckonable income.
Pay Related Benefit (PRB) is now also an eligible payment.

- You do not need to have your Leaving Cert results or to have accepted a course to apply. You can simply supply the details of the course you hope to study and update your course choice online at a later date.
